In August 2001 Emmitt had a brain stem Stroke that left him unable to speak, unable to eat, unable to walk or stand up or even sit up due to his affected balance. He was unable to see the world clearly any longer due to double vision. His life as a performer or involvement in the Arts seemed over. And his precious independence was gone as he required someone to care for him due to his illness and the development of diabetes. In 2002 after being released from hospital he suffered another setback. He loss vision totally in his left eye as well as being confined to a wheelchair. From 2002 to the present he worked hard and was able to get up out of the wheelchair and stand up. Learn to take a few steps. Give up his walker and then cane in June 2006 to finally be able to walk without aid. Though he had loss vision in one eye his vision in his other eye improved to 20/20 and has been able to drive himself as far as Arkansas. He became Independent once again. In 2005 he felt strong enough to start his production company Wabi Sabi Productions Inc. a Not For profit Theatrical and Video/Film company. He had no funds or received any grants or donations but has been able to produce 11 off Bway Shows in 18 months and is currently writing two plays due up in October and November 2006.
